This summer I was commissioned by KBA-NotaSys, the company responsible for the new Canadian polymer banknote security features, to create a series of ten paintings that examined the theme of Payment. In researching what a system of payment involved, I found it could be condensed into two-steps involving a debt, and the clearance of that debt. With this in mind, I explored the notion of the creation of paintings using the addition of a mark, and the clearing away of that mark. Images were formed on the support through these simple actions, sometimes layered upon each other, sometimes covered up. For this series I amassed an archive of images of early forms of currency, and worked with these images to create the paintings.
The paintings will be on display in Lausanne, Switzerland from December 2014 until December 2015.
Finally replaced my favourite brush after all these years. This is what becomes of my favourite things in life. Be warned, new sweater, this is what kind of future awaits you.
